MET APPEAL; Manhunt after a Moped shooting in Clapham, S. London.
On Friday 1ST March 2024 at 16.55, Police in Clapham, South London were involved in a pursuit involving two suspects riding a moped. They failed to stop when directed to do so and a Pursuit escalated.
The Moped collided with a 27 year old pedestrian, where it is believed the suspects fled on foot, dropping a firearm which is believed to be a sawn-off shotgun which discharged. injuring two further members of the public, a 27 and 36 year old women. All three were taken to hospital and were later discharged. Witnesses have stated one of the women was hit in the head. Injuries are not life threatening. The women shot were not targeted and were innocent bystanders – but it goes to show, that this could have so easily been another murder caused by the carrying of weapons on the street. If these are your sons, relatives or neighbours involved – you can save their lives, by handing them in. A few years now, is far better than life for murder later.
DCI Gemma Alger, Specialist Crime, said: “Our investigation to identify the two people responsible is at an early stage, but we will be relentless in following up every line of enquiry to arrest them.
“The suspects fled the scene on foot. Crime scenes remain in place in St Alphonsus Road as forensic searches are ongoing at premises where the suspects made off through gardens.
“The shotgun was recovered from the scene and this will also be subject to forensic analysis.
“I want to hear from anyone with information about the incident and any witnesses yet to speak with police. CCTV footage will form part of our investigation, and of course I also want to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage that may assist the investigation.
‘’Local Officers will be in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.’’
