You're never too old to learn a new trick or two....
UKBTA have teamed up with supporting Riding Schools and Events to provide ‘Security Schools’ – These are no yawnfest, classroom exercises, these are practical knowledge, tips and tricks to help you AVOID becoming a victim of motorcycle theft.
90 percent of riders claim to lock their bikes to their insurance company – only 10 percent of bikes stolen, were locked. Of those, almost all were locked ineffectively, with chains laying on the floor having just been run through the rear wheel, or secured only by a rudimentary lock that is easily bypassed.
This means that there is much that we can do as a community to secure our bikes, and secure them well. Theft is rife because it is easy to sling your steering lock on, or take the chance as you are only filling with fuel or popping in that shop to grab a paper. Some may lock with a lock they feel will prevent a thief as they don’t know the ins and outs of locks and security systems. We can inadvertently make it too easy to steal the bikes – and whilst we don’t have control on who may try their chances on stealing our bike, we can make sure we do all that is in our power to stop them in the first place. It isn’t just about buying the most expensive, any lock can play a part. It is about learning to use of what you have – more effectively.
We have joined forces with Security Companies such as ABUS, ASGARD, CANTRACK, & others to provide you with skills and knowledge to know what locks work well, what doesn’t. How locks can be used better, and what locks are more suited. We teach the use of alarms and other electronic devices. The difference between Covert and Overt trackers, how they can be overcome and how you can prevent that happening. To treat your security as part of your bike, and to upgrade and tweak it over time, as and when you can.
As always, we have no financial benefit in any of the products. We intend to give you the knowledge and the ability to secure your bike, learn about what products are available and make them accessible to you through discounts negotiated through our Supporting Companies that are all dedicated to preventing motorcycle theft.
We want you to leave feeling you have the skills and knowledge to use the security you have more effectively and make your machine more difficult to steal.
